Abstract: | Goddard Institute for Space Studies climate model is used to investigate whether growth of ice sheets could have been initiated by variations in solar insolation. Three orbital configurations are used, corresponding to 116 and 106 ka BP, and modified insolation field with greater reductions in summer insolation at high northern latitudes. Time periods chosen are those in which evidence suggests ice sheets were growing rapidly. Results are inconclusive. |
