Abstract: From previous ice-core studies by these and other authors, it is now possible to propose regional climatic signal for Weddell Sea coastal sector of peninsula. Most striking feature is broad maximum in δ¹⁸O for mid-19th century, implying decadal average temperature at least as high as present, contrasting with evidence from elsewhere in southern hemisphere. Tentative explanations are proposed, based on evidence for period (1974-80) where climatic shifts are clearly amplified in isotopic records.
