Record #104090:

Annually-averaged polar sea-ice extents during 1978-1987: northern extent decrease and southern extent oscillation (abstract) / Per Gloersen, William J. Campbell.

Title: Annually-averaged polar sea-ice extents during 1978-1987: northern extent decrease and southern extent oscillation (abstract) / Per Gloersen, William J. Campbell.
Author(s): Gloersen, Per.
Campbell, William J.
Date: 1990.
In: Annals of Glaciology. (1990.), Vol. 14 (1990)
Abstract: 1978-87 satellite observations of global sea-ice extent were separated into Arctic and Antarctic components. Annually-averaged global extent decrease was 2.5%. Greater part of decrease was in Arctic (3.5%); small oscillation was superimposed on this with period of about 4 years and amplitude of 1%. Significantly smaller and statistically insignificant decrease of 1.2% was observed for Antarctic; three large oscillations (4%) were superimposed at periods of 3 years, in phase with El Niño events.
Notes:
