Record #104087:

Potential for basal melting under the Summit coring site, central Greenland (abstract) / John Firestone, E.D. Waddington, J. Cunningham.

Title: Potential for basal melting under the Summit coring site, central Greenland (abstract) / John Firestone, E.D. Waddington, J. Cunningham.
Author(s): Firestone, John.
Waddington, E. D.
Cunningham, J.
Date: 1990.
In: Annals of Glaciology. (1990.), Vol. 14 (1990)
Abstract: Climatic record from Greenland bore holes may extend beyond last interglacial only if basal ice near drilling site has never reached its pressure melting point (-2°C). Results of analysis of measurements from Summit site showed that basal ice does not melt if geothermal flux is <54 mW m⁻², using same mass balance and temperature histories as previous study at Crête where value of 48 mW m⁻² was estimated.
