Thermal stabilization of permafrost with thermosyphons / J.P. Zarling, Frank Donald Haynes, John J. Gagnon.

Title: Thermal stabilization of permafrost with thermosyphons / J.P. Zarling, Frank Donald Haynes, John J. Gagnon.
Author(s): Zarling, J. P.
Haynes, Frank Donald.
Gagnon, John J.
Date: 1990.
Publisher: New York: American Society of Mechanical Engineers
In: Proceedings of the Ninth International Conference on Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering - 1990 - presented at ... Houston, Texas, February 18-23, 1990. Vol. 4. Arctic/polar technology. (1990.),
Abstract: Thermosyphons used as technique for subgrade cooling when contructing foundations in cold regions. Presents results of laboratory tests with full-size, two-phase commercial thermosyphon. Thermal conductance of thermosyphon is given as function of air velocity and slope of evaporator and condenser sections; it is defined as overall heat transfer performance, which includes effects of heat conduction, evaporation, condensation, radiation, and convection. Component thermal resistances of installed thermosyphon are calculated and compared.
