Abstract: Derives mathematical relation to evaluate undersaturation at beginning of each freezeback process during several thaw-subsidence-freezeback cycles. Analysis shows how effects of initial unfrozen water content and permafrost compaction due to subsidence can be taken into account in determining freezeback pressures. Relationship for initial gas fraction is also developed which can be incorporated in freezeback model. Upper limits are established for permafrost compaction or thaw consolidation for various possible conditions.
