Preliminary mixed mode fracture experiments on S2 columnar freshwater ice / S.J. DeFranco, J.P. Dempsey.
Title: | Preliminary mixed mode fracture experiments on S2 columnar freshwater ice / S.J. DeFranco, J.P. Dempsey. |
Author(s): | DeFranco, S. J. Dempsey, J. P. |
Date: | 1990. |
Publisher: | New York: American Society of Mechanical Engineers |
In: | Proceedings of the Ninth International Conference on Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering - 1990 - presented at ... Houston, Texas, February 18-23, 1990. Vol. 4. Arctic/polar technology. (1990.), |
Abstract: | Preliminary experiments were performed on three specimen geometries each known to have different levels of mode mixity at crack tip. Apparent mode II fracture toughness was calculated in each case. Discrepancies between theory and observation are discussed in terms of material anisotropy, eccentricity of loading, and specimen stability. |
