Dynamic analysis of a floating ice sheet undergoing vertical indentation / W.R. McGilvary, Devinder S. Sodhi, J.H. Lever.
Title: | Dynamic analysis of a floating ice sheet undergoing vertical indentation / W.R. McGilvary, Devinder S. Sodhi, J.H. Lever. |
Author(s): | McGilvary, W. R. Sodhi, Devinder S. Lever, J. H. |
Date: | 1990. |
Publisher: | New York: American Society of Mechanical Engineers |
In: | Proceedings of the Ninth International Conference on Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering - 1990 - presented at ... Houston, Texas, February 18-23, 1990. Vol. 4. Arctic/polar technology. (1990.), |
Abstract: | Describes finite-element model of floating ice sheet subjected to vertical indentation at constant velocity. Objectives were to assess validity of small-deflection, elastic theory to predict indenter loads and to determine relative importance of fluid inertia versus ice-sheet inertia. Assesses model's validity by comparing predictions with previously obtained laboratory data. |
