Crowd induced deflection of Dow's Lake ice cover during Winterlude festival - 1985 / Nirmal K. Sinha.
Title: | Crowd induced deflection of Dow's Lake ice cover during Winterlude festival - 1985 / Nirmal K. Sinha. |
Author(s): | Sinha, Nirmal K. |
Date: | 1990. |
Publisher: | New York: American Society of Mechanical Engineers |
In: | Proceedings of the Ninth International Conference on Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering - 1990 - presented at ... Houston, Texas, February 18-23, 1990. Vol. 4. Arctic/polar technology. (1990.), |
Abstract: | Response of 0.6 m thick floating ice cover is described, when 60,000 spectators gathered to witness concert on stages built on ice in Ottawa. To monitor and evaluate safety, deflection and surface strain of ice were recorded continuously in front of stages. Data illustrate effect of crowd movement on deformation of ice, and emphasize careful planning of such events. |
