Record #104046:

Theoretical investigation of the icebreaking cycle in 2-D / P. Valanto.

Title: Theoretical investigation of the icebreaking cycle in 2-D / P. Valanto.
Author(s): Valanto, P.
Date: 1990.
Publisher: New York: American Society of Mechanical Engineers
In: Proceedings of the Ninth International Conference on Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering - 1990 - presented at ... Houston, Texas, February 18-23, 1990. Vol. 4. Arctic/polar technology. (1990.),
Abstract: Focuses on transient response of floating ice sheet to advancing two-dimensional icebreaker. Response (i.e. icebreaking cycle) consists of dynamic bending of ice to flexural failure, and rotation of broken ice slab until slab is parallel to bow plate of advancing vessel. Once these phenomena are known, 3-D problem can be more easily tackled.
