Karluk ice island / W. Bugno, D.M. Masterson, J. Kenny, J. Gamble.

Title: Karluk ice island / W. Bugno, D.M. Masterson, J. Kenny, J. Gamble.
Author(s): Bugno, W.
Masterson, D. M.
Kenny, J.
Gamble, J.
Date: 1990.
Publisher: New York: American Society of Mechanical Engineers
In: Proceedings of the Ninth International Conference on Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering - 1990 - presented at ... Houston, Texas, February 18-23, 1990. Vol. 4. Arctic/polar technology. (1990.),
Abstract: Manmade island made by spraying sea water. Begun mid-December 1988, completed mid-January 1989. Supports drill rig used to drill offshore well near Prudhoe Bay. Ice loading was dominant design force. Design included mechanical systems to protect against thawing of ice by heat generated during drilling.
