Geochemistry of subglacial calcites: implications for the hydrology of the basal water film / Martin J. Sharp, Jean-Louis Tison, Ghislaine Fierens.

Title: Geochemistry of subglacial calcites: implications for the hydrology of the basal water film / Martin J. Sharp, Jean-Louis Tison, Ghislaine Fierens.
Author(s): Sharp, Martin J.

Date: 1990.
In: Arctic and Alpine Research. (1990.), Vol. 22(2) (1990)
Abstract: Three types of calcite precipitate are found in proglacial area of Glacier de Tsanfleuron, Switzerland. Sparite and micrite form part of evolutionary series precipitated in response to solute concentrations as result of progressive freezing of subglacial water film. Sparite forms under open-system conditions, during early stages of freezing, and micrite during final stages of closed-system freezing. Characteristics described. Origin of white deposits is less well understood.
