Abstract: Nine papers, mostly from special session of American Geophysical Union 1989 fall meeting, describe geophysical aspects of earthquake in vicinity of Macquarie and Campbell islands occurring 23 May, measuring 8.2 on Richter scale and going on record as largest earthquake of 1980s. Topics include moment tensor, focal mechanism, source time function, rupture process, stress-drop, ultra-long period characteristics and seismotectonics.
