Abstract: Inference is based on negative excursion in oxygen isotope ratios of three planktonic foraminiferal species detected in sediment core from Arabian Sea. Suggests that winter monsoon was stronger for up to 4 ka during last glaciation; this could have been due to build-up of glacier ice over Himalaya and Tibetan plateau, which would enhance land-to-sea temperature contrast in winter and reduce it in summer, resulting in weaker summer monsoon, as suggested by earlier workers.
