Record #103050:

Soot in the atmosphere and snow surface of Antarctica / Stephen G. Warren, Antony D. Clarke.

Title: Soot in the atmosphere and snow surface of Antarctica / Stephen G. Warren, Antony D. Clarke.
Author(s): Warren, Stephen G.
Clarke, Antony D.
Date: 1990.
In: Journal of Geophysical Research. (1990.), Vol. 95(D2) (1990)
Abstract: Results of analysis of snow collected near South Pole during summer 1986 were compared with those from snow far from station, and scavenging ratio was found to be about 150. Downwind of station, well-defined plume of soot due to burning of diesel fuel was shown, but, even in centre of plume 1 km downwind, soot concentration was only 3 ng g⁻¹, too small to affect snow albedo significantly. Measurements of snow albedo near large inland stations are therefore probably representative of surrounding regions.
