Record #102938:
Temperature and salinity staircases in the northwestern Weddell Sea / R.D. Muench, H.J.S. Fernando, G.R. Stegen.
Title: | Temperature and salinity staircases in the northwestern Weddell Sea / R.D. Muench, H.J.S. Fernando, G.R. Stegen. |
Author(s): | Muench, R. D. Fernando, H. J. S. Stegen, G. R. |
Date: | 1990. |
In: | Journal of Physical Oceanography. (1990.), Vol. 20(2) (1990) |
Abstract: | Data collected March 1986 reveal numerous thermohaline staircases in the thermocline separating warm deep water from the overlying colder, lower salinity winter water. These are thought to be maintained by double diffusive processes and may play a significant role in regional vertical heat transfer. |
Notes: | Journal of Physical Oceanography. Vol. 20(2) :295-306 (1990). |
