Abstract: | Published in 1992. Develops lichen growth-rate curve for dating later Holocene (<1000 a BP) deposits in this area. Rhizocarpon section Rhizocarpon species was used because of its longevity and relatively consistent size--age relationships. It grows at about 34 mm during first 100 a, slowing to 7.5 mm a⁻¹ thereafter. This growth-rate curve appears satisfactory for dating neoglacial deposits below Tyndall and Lewis glaciers, which have estimated age of 1000 a BP. |
