Record #101769:
Multispectral microwave signatures of the Antarctic ice sheet / Helmut Rott.
Title: | Multispectral microwave signatures of the Antarctic ice sheet / Helmut Rott. |
Author(s): | Rott, Helmut. |
Date: | 1989. |
Publisher: | Utrecht: VSP |
Abstract: | Presents some examples of analysis of SMMR data which focus on permanently dry snow zones of Antarctica. Frequency dependences and polarization ratios of emitted radiation indicate that various scales of subsurface inhomogeneities act as scatterers and reflectors. Based on annual amplitudes of brightness temperatures, penetration depths at various SMMR frequencies were derived. Mean annual emissivities were found to be quite stable over main parts of east Antarctica, which consequently offer possibility of monitoring stability of microwave sensors. Trends in sensitivity of SMMR channels were derived from data of east Antarctica in 1979, 1980 and 1982. |
