Abstract: Describes coupling between horizontal, two-dimensional, mesoscale sea-ice model and three-dimensional ocean model. Focuses on dynamics and thermodynamics of interactions between sea ice and ocean. New approach for estimating oceanic heat flux related to currents and different ocean-layer temperatures was applied to model. Sensitivity tests in sea off East Greenland area show that model supplies realistic current and oceanic temperature fields for simulation of sea ice and that sea ice also affects surface currents. Realistic oceanic heat fluxes are obtained from model.
