Title, transliterated: O vozmozhnosti opredelenii︠a︡ razlichnykh kharakteristik antarkticheskikh morskikh lʹdov v zimniĭ period po dannym infrakrasnoĭ i radiolokat︠s︡ionnoĭ sʺemki i ISZ / A.V. Provorkin.
Translated title: On the possibility of determining the various characteristics of Antarctic sea ice in winter on the basis of infra-red and radar satellite images.
Author(s): Provorkin, A. V.
Date: 1989.
Language: Russian.
In: Informat︠s︡ionnyĭ bi︠u︡lletenʹ Sovetskoĭ antarkticheskoĭ ėkspedit︠s︡ii. (1989.), Vol. 112 (1989)
Abstract: During Vladivostok's voyage to rescue Mikhail Somov in July-August 1985, infra-red imagery from NOAA satellite and radar imagery from Kosmos-1500 satellite were received on board, and supplemented by ice observations made visually from ship and during helicopter ice-reconnaissance flights. All types of data were compared. Discusses signatures of ice shelves, outlet glaciers and large icebergs. Assesses limitations of two types of imagery as revealed during polar night. Translation in Polar Geography and Geology, 1989, Vol. 13, no. 3, p. 205-211.
