Спасательная экспедиция на ледоколе "Владивосток"

Title: Спасательная экспедиция на ледоколе "Владивосток"
Title, transliterated: Spasatelʹnai︠a︡ ėkspedit︠s︡ii︠a︡ na ledokole "Vladivostok" / A.N. Chilingarov.
Translated title: The rescue expedition on the icebreaker "Vladivostok".
Author(s): Chilingarov, A. N.
Date: 1989.
Language: Russian.
In: Informat︠s︡ionnyĭ bi︠u︡lletenʹ Sovetskoĭ antarkticheskoĭ ėkspedit︠s︡ii. (1989.), Vol. 112 (1989)
Abstract: On 15 March 1985, while discharging cargo for Russkaya Station, Soviet research vessel Mikhail Somov became beset and began drifting. Progress of icebreaker Vladivostok (26,000 hp), sent south for rescue, was greatly facilitated by satellite information in form of both radar and infra-red imagery, combined with ice data from helicopter reconnaissance flights. Mikhail Somov was freed on 26 July. Indicates that year-round navigation using icebreakers is feasible in this area. Translation in Polar Geography and Geology, 1989, Vol. 13, no. 3, p. 159-165.
