Population ecology of Sorex shrews in North-East Siberia / N.E. Dokuchayev.

Title: Population ecology of Sorex shrews in North-East Siberia / N.E. Dokuchayev.
Author(s): Dokuchayev, N. E.
Dokuchaev, N. E.
Date: 1989.
In: Annales Zoologici Fennici. (1989.), Vol. 26(4) (1989)
Abstract: Based on studies in two localities. 4608 shrews of eight species were caught during 1972-88. Sorex caecutiens was dominant (79%). Dominant and sub-dominant species tended to be spatially segregated. Larch seeds frequently consumed when harvest is abundant. Litter size of S. caecutiens was 8.6±0.3 in Kolyma river basin and 7.5°+ or -0.3 on north coast of Sea of Okhotsk. Females may give birth to up to four litters during breeding season. In years of low spring density, young females of first litters take part in reproduction. Winter mortality generally higher in continental region.
