Record #101144:

Isotopic composition of ice formed by water freezing / Roland Souchez, J.-L. Tison, R.D. (Reginald D.) Lorrain.

Title: Isotopic composition of ice formed by water freezing / Roland Souchez, J.-L. Tison, R.D. (Reginald D.) Lorrain.
Author(s): Souchez, Roland.
Tison, J. -L.
Lorrain, R. D.
Date: [1989]
Publisher: Brussels: Science Policy Office of Belgium
In: Antarctica : Belgian Scientific Research Programme on Antarctica : scientific results of phase one (Oct 85 - Jan 89). ([1989]), Volume 3. Glaciology and climatology.
Abstract: Analysis of factors involved in apparent isotopic fractionation during water/ice phase changes, considering stable isotopes of O and H. Models and computer simulations are used to predict isotopic distribution in ice formed by water freezing in various environmental settings. Development of box diffusion model combined with boundary layer concept leads to possibility of determining freezing rates from isotopic composition. Model is tested experimentally and method used successfully in interpretation of field results. Implications for Antarctic glaciology discussed.
