Abstract: Recent work on 130 m ice core produced 1000-year glaciochemical record from which several horizons were thought to be due to volcanic eruptions. Glass shards from these eruptions were detected in some layers, suspected because of their high sulphuric acid concentrations indicative of acid fallout. Confirms that extraction and analysis of volcanic particles from layers of high acidity as well as visible tephra layers in ice cores can provide important data for dating and correlation purposes.
