| Abstract: | Surveys currently available methods, emphasizing need for experimental laboratory work, field programmes for measuring internal stresses before failure, field observations of crack configurations, and behaviour of river ice. Analytical approaches being developed for modelling hydrodynamic/structural interaction leading to breakup are described briefly. |
