Finance and funding

Details regarding the finance (fees and maintenance) and different sources of funding are available from the main University Postgraduate Admissions webpages. These include different sources of funding based on topic, background of the applicant and other factors. Consideration for some awards is automatic with your application, but some awards require you to apply specifically. Please check the fund details to ensure you apply correctly for any relevant sources of funding. The application deadline to be considered for these University administered funds is 2nd December 2021.

In addition to these University sources of funding, the Scott Polar Research Institute is pleased to be able to offer the two scholarships below for entry to the MPhil Polar Studies. The application deadline to be considered for these SPRI administered funds is 31st March 2022.

Debenham Scholarship

The Scott Polar Research Institute is very pleased to be able to offer a Debenham Scholarship to one outstanding applicant for the M.Phil. in Polar Studies. This scholarship is worth £12,159 (2021-22 rate). The award is generously funded by a bequest from the late Barbara Debenham in memory of Frank Debenham, one of the members of Scott's 1910-1913 (Terra Nova) Expedition to the Antarctic, and founder and first Director of the Scott Polar Research Institute.

By applying for the M.Phil. in Polar Studies, you will automatically be entered into the competition for this award, as long as your application is received by 31st March 2022. The scholarship will be awarded to the best applicant for the M.Phil. who is not in receipt of another University award.

The Debenham Scholarship has been generously funded by the Debenham Family, and particularly through a bequest from the late Barbara Debenham, his daughter, in memory of Frank and his desire to foster research into the Polar Regions.
