Shackleton: Life and Leadership

On the 1st of August 2014, Professor Julian Dowdeswell welcomed members of the polar community to 'Shackleton: Life and Leadership', a new exhibition on Sir Ernest Shackleton at the Scott Polar Research Institute’s Polar Museum. The exhibition was then formally opened by the Hon. Alexandra Shackleton, who spoke of the challenges that confronted her grandfather and, despite them, his great achievements. The exhibition utilises artefacts, archival material and images from the institute’s collections and will be in place for the duration of the Shackleton Endurance Centenary. During the centenary an additional range of historical items and material will be on short–term display, please check the Polar Museum website for additional information, http://www.spri.cam.ac.uk/museum/. The displays on Shackleton’s life and expeditions are complemented with sections on his abilities as a leader and the voyage of the James Caird.
