Introduction
This seminar will examine the ways in which the different actors can promote good governance and more sustainable forms of oil and gas development in Russia. In particular, the seminar will examine the ways in which western oil and gas companies manage the social and environmental impacts of their activities in Russia. The seminar will enable a constructive debate on these issues, drawing on the different perspectives of investors, companies, consultants, pressure groups and academics. It will include speakers and participants from the UK and from Russia.

Organisation
This seminar is part of the series 'Trans-sectoral Partnerships, Sustainability Research and the Oil and Gas Industry in Russia' funded by the UK Economic and Social Research Council, and organised by the Centre for Environmental Policy and Governance at the LSE, in alliance with the Scott Polar Research Institute at the University of Cambridge, the Dept of Geography, University of Leicester and the consulting firm Environment & Community Worldwide (ECW). This seminar series has been designed to provide a forum for dialogue between academia, industry, government and civil society, and to facilitate a critical examination of Western and Russian approaches to sustainable development and corporate governance in Russia. Seminar format
The meeting will involve a maximum of 45 participants and the aim is to encourage discussion and constructive dialogue between participants from a range of backgrounds including government, investors, the oil and gas industry, consultancies and NGOs and academics.

A limited number of places are available - a small amount of funding is available to cover travel costs for post-graduate students.
