Shackleton items from the Archives

A draft of a poem, by Ernest Shackleton, for publication in the expedition magazine

' We leave our pleasant homelands,
for the roaring south east winds,
all words of love and friendship,
for yearning hearts and minds,
for clasps of loving fingers,
dreams must alone'

In 1902 Shackleton was elected editor of the Discovery Expedition magazine, South Polar Times. In his personal archives are drafts of articles and poems made during the expedition.
