Search the catalogue

Our collections are listed on both the Archives Portal Europe and on the Archives Hub:

Please note that when using these catalogues the first part of the entry is only an overview

GB15 is not a reference number.

You need to look for reference numbers beginning MS which can be found by choosing the correct part of the catalogue from the drop-down menus (to be found on the right if using Archives Hub, or left if using Archives Portal Europe), then viewing the list of items in the Scope and Content part of the catalogue. eg MS 100/25 ; D letter to Smith.

How to search:

When searching the SPRI archive catalogue on these sites entries are listed alphabetically by their author and provide both a general over view and then a detailed listing for the majority of items in our collection.

Catalogue entries give a overview and then are usually split into expeditions / correspondence / miscellaneous papers. It is within the scope and content fields of these parts that you will find the detailed listings of items in our collections:

Example: GB 15 Robert Falcon Scott

This number relates only to the author and should not be used for ordering documents.

Example: MS 366/12/3;ER Rough draft of instructions to Lieutenant Shackleton, 17 February 1902

This is a valid reference number for a document. It can be found by choosing the correct part of the catalogue from the drop-down menus (to be found on the right if using Archives Hub, or left if using Archives Portal Europe) then viewing the list of items in the Scope and Content part of the catalogue. eg MS 100/25 ; D letter to Smith.

This is the information that should be used for ordering documents.

Please be aware that you will also be able to find collections held in other archives beyond SPRI by using these sites.

If you cannot find what you are looking for, please do contact us to discuss your research.
