British Kangerlugssuaq Expedition 1998	Exploration of terrain and ascent of major summits particularly Redekammen, on East Greenland Coast, between 32° and 33° West, 68° to 69° North.	£1000
Svalbard Glaciological Expedition	The study of the impact of superimposed ice formation on the mass balance of glaciers in the vicinity of Nyalesund, N.W. Svalbard.	£500
Greenland 1998: in the Steps of Tilman	To climb unclimbed peaks on the west coast of Greenland from the boat as per Tilman.	£750
The Scottish Mountaineering Club Greenland Expedition	First ascents of peaks in the Sefstroms Glacier area; second ascent of Bolvaerket by a new route, and first ascent of South Ridge of Dansketinde.	£750
In the Footsteps of Parry	To retrace Parry's journey of June 1820, crossing Melville Island and to record any visual evidence of his expedition.	£1000
1998 Durham University Svalbard Project	To undertake detailed research on aspects of two adjacent glaciers (Kokbreen and Arebeen).	£1000
Rignys Bjerg Mountains '98	Exploration of this remote area to which very few previous visits have been made and first ascents of the mountains there.	£750
Project Kamchatka '98. (Edward Wilson Award)	An integrated land use appraisal of Bystrinsky Nature Park using a multi-disciplinary approach.	£500
Primary Angle Closure Glaucoma amongst an Eskimo population. (Edward Wilson Award)	An opthalmic research study into this rare and preventable eye disease with identification of affected individuals and subsequent treatment.	£500
