Highlights of the exhibits: Vilborg Gissurardottir’s South Pole expedition jacket; Ari Trausti Gudmundsson’s North Pole expedition jacket and certificate; Charcot’s Pourquoi-pas? boat model; display of pictures of the early 20th century polar explorers; Moon rock from Apollo 17; collection of photos of the Apollo astronauts training in Iceland; items used by the Apollo astronauts during their training and stay in Iceland; a photo of Neil Armstrong with his original signature, given to the museum by his two sons Mark and Rick Armstrong; original Apollo 11 crew patch from Neil Armstrong's personal collection, given to the museum by his two sons Mark and Rick Armstrong; original Mercator’s Map of Iceland, 1569; small collection of original 18th and 19th centuries maps; reproduction of Viking weapons; handmade reproduction of Viking navigation tools; collection of original portraits of the most important Viking explorers by painter Arturas Slapsys; original series of paintings of Husavik Viking settler Nattfari, by painter Kristinn G.
