Janne Flora
Research Associate
Anthropology and Russian Northern Studies Group
Janne is a social anthropologist with research interests in Greenland. Her PhD research was an exploration of suicide, longing and reincarnation in Greenland and her MPhil dissertation looked at the role of silence in relationships between social workers and Greenlandic clients in Denmark. Janne is currently working on a three year project, researching the concepts of loneliness and relatedness within the context of seasonal movements among Greenlanders locally, as well as among Greenlandic students and migrants in Denmark. This project raises questions about how Greenlanders locally and abroad maintain relatedness and negotiate various forms of distance and loneliness within a context where loneliness is generally feared and avoided. This project is funded by the Carlsberg Foundation / Carlsbergfondet, Denmark.
