New beginnings

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

Hello and welcome to the first entry on the SPRI Conservation blog. My name is Fiona Cahill and I am the project conservator assessing and conserving objects in preparation for display in the new museum. Although we are in the throes of major building works at the moment, the museum redevelopment is not the only exciting project happening here at SPRI. Through Heritage Lottery Funding the Institute has also been able to improve the storage conditions for both the archive and museum stores.

With the completion of the new museum store the paintings were relocated to their new purpose built racking. The Institute has a diverse collection of paintings ranging from portraits of polar explorers to Inuit art.
