Carving: Walrus, made from a single piece of highly polished grey/green soapstone. Carved with head turned to the left. Circular hole at centre of each circular incised eye; two oval depressed nostrils. Parallel lines of incised dots on the muzzle and chin represent whiskers. Two pointed ivory tusks are inserted into holes on either side of downturned mouth. Five lines representing claws are incised on upper side of each fore flipper and left hind flipper and on underside of right hind flipper. Triangular tail. Incised underneath: "E-9 84 B-I-". |
