| Full description: |
9A.: Naval engagement, as yet unidentified, between four ships with single gun decks on a faint blue sea. They are off a coast with a lighthouse on pale cliffs. Red streaks indicate explosions and gunfire.
9B.: An early 19th century whale ship proceeding under topgallants, with the main course unbent out of the way of smoke from the tryworks. The faint lines of three whaleboats are visible along the bulwarks, although much of the pigment has been lost. In the absence of any distinguishing flags, it is difficult nowadays to tell the nationality of the vessel. |
