| Full description: |
Whole: Exquisitely engraved with woman seated at a square piano, although one with an improbable key grouping, so a "generic" piano. Patterned curtains and drapery frame the picture. (cf. Y: 62/15/69A). Her simple day dress of ca. 1825-30 has gigot or "leg of mutton" sleeves and a large collar with a ruffled border. Around her neck is a double ruff of lace, a 16th century feature which was revived occasionally between ca. 1810 and 1830 and gives the picture the appearance of an earlier period.
