Title: The deck: morning inspection and prayers
Description: One of a set of 16 chromolithographs, based on the work of Staff Surgeon Edward Lawton Moss, R.N. of H.M.S.Alert during the British Arctic Expedition of 1875-76. 'Morning muster and prayers on deck formed part of the daily routine, and, while the long darkness lasted, every day began with this scene. The men are clad in seal-skin and cork-soled carpet boots. The deck is covered with a deep layer of snow, and snow-houses are built over each hatchway' - Extract from 'Shores of the Polar Sea'.
