Full description:

Carving: Woman with Baby in Hood, in grey soapstone. Woman is sitting with legs and arms outstretched. Her left hand is down, right palm up. She is wearing a parka (amauti) with curved front apron, roomy back pouch and large upstanding pointed hood. She is sitting on the long back tail of the parka. Shallow incised line follows parka edge. Her face is carved with triangular nose and incised right eye, mouth and hair. She is facing left towards a child in her hood. Child's face is carved with triangular nose and incised mouth and left eye. Its left arm is extended. White label "9" glued to back of parka tail. Two holes on base suggest attachment to base (now missing).
