Moccasin: Single, round-toed type. Made from smoked tanned moosehide in four piece construction. A single piece forms the sole; another piece forms the upper which is turned over the sides of the foot and gathered around the toe. Vamp and tongue are made from one piece; upstanding ankle lapels are made from another piece. Vamp is lined with coarsely-woven white canvas secured with three parallel rows of machine stitching using beige thread around the sides and at the toe and one row of same across the tongue. Lower front of ankle lapels are serrated. Skin piping is inserted into the seam between the vamp and sole. Vertical seam at the heel. Narrow strip of tanned smoked moosehide is inserted into the ankle seam. Long tie of same is threaded through holes around ankles and heel, through each side of vamp and lower edge of ankle lapels. Structural sewing is with sinew and cotton thread. Evidence of wear on soles |
