a: Snowhouse (a) in two parts. Two connected domed snowhouses (one larger than the other) on a base. Each is made of irregular-shaped pieces of ivory (walrus) secured with adhesive of lichen?. Larger snowhouse has a rectangular glass window at the front; vertical door is cut into front of smaller snowhouse. Additional ivory pieces are secured to base with circular ivory pegs. Carving is on an oval stone base. Semi-circular sleeping platform is carved in relief at wider end. Four circular holes around curved edge of platform. Lamps and cooking pots are carved on pointed extensions of the platform. Square hole at centre top of base. Man (b) is carved in ivory. He is standing with legs apart and arms by his side. Eyebrows and eyes (blackened), nose and mouth are incised on oval face. He is wearing knee-length trousers and a parka which forms a vertical split at centre of V-shaped front edge. Upstanding pointed hood frames the face. Woman and child (b) are carved in ivory. She is standing with legs slightly apart and arms by her side. Eyebrows and eyes (blackened), nose and mouth are incised on oval face. Her hair forms a bun at the back of the head. She is wearing knee-length trousers and a thigh-length parka with a pouch and downturned pointed hood on the back. Head of a child carved looking over her left shoulder.
