Full description:

Harpoon, model: Shaft is made from a single piece of wood, oval in cross-section. Shaft tapers towards straight proximal end which is circular in cross-section and flares towards distal end. Rectangular bone cap is secured to distal end of shaft by inserting rectangular ridge into rectangular hole on underside of cap. Circular hole at the centre of rectangular ridge on upperside of cap corresponds to knob at proximal end of pointed bone shaft. Bone shaft is further secured to wood shaft with two lashings of dehaired seal skin thong. Triangular wood and ivory throwing board is attached to one side of wood shaft by two ivory pegs. Ivory peg is inserted into one side of wooden shaft. Inscription in pencil: "11"" (bone shaft); "1 3/4" x 1 3/4"", "7 1/4"", "1" 1/32", "Length without point "68 1/4"","1 7/16" (equal from 35" to hook)", "16 1/4"", "15 1/2"" (wood shaft); "20" overall" (throwing board)
