Full description:

Carving: Two figures (upper body of man and woman) in ivory on soapstone base. a - Woman has a triangular face with incised curved eyebrows, circular eyes, triangular nose, two circular nostrils and open rectangular mouth enclosing 4 depressions for teeth. Eyebrows and eyes are outlined in pencil. A circular hole is carved at the centre of each U-shaped ear. Figure-8 shaped peg is inserted into hole at top back of head. Circular "collar" is carved around neck. Circular ivory peg is inserted into hole at centre of flat bottom and corresponds to hole in base. b - Man has a triangular face with incised curved eyebrows, circular eyes, rectangular nose, two circular nostrils and open rectangular mouth enclosing 4 depressions for teeth. Eyebrows, eyes and nostrils are outlined in pencil. A circular hole is carved at the centre of each oval-shaped ear. He is wearing a brimmed cap attached by an ivory peg inserted through the top of the cap into the top of the head. Circular "collar" or hood is carved around long neck. Circular hole at centre of flat bottom (peg missing). c - Rectangular base of grey soapstone with incised line 5 - 7 mm from edge. Two circular holes 23 mm and 26 mm from short sides.
