Full description: |
Face. Carved from a single piece of wood stained black on exterior. Face is carved with projecting eyebrows. A circular hole is carved through the centre of each oval-shaped eye. Two nostrils are carved in bulbous projecting nose. Right cheek is convex; left cheek is flat. Mouth is carved slanting downward to the left enclosing parallel incisions representing the teeth. Lines are incised on the forehead, bridge of the nose, cheeks, chin and around the eyes and the mouth to the nose. Wooden plug in hole on forehead. Back is concave for accomodation of the face. Partial hole at centre top. Two holes at each side for attachment to wearer. '192' in black ink on back. |
