Harness, trace, dog: Harness (a) is made from two wide loops of dehaired dark brown seal skin (fjord - from register entries) folded in half along length to form a double layer. Three cross-straps of same are threaded and tied through slits at right angles. Ends of loops are sewn at the back with sinew. Ends of dehaired seal (bearded - from register entries) skin trace (b) are tied to end of harness and through metal swivel. Opposite end of thong is threaded and spliced through centre of oval bone buckle. An additional length of dehaired seal skin is threaded through buckle. One end forms a loop; opposite end is threaded and looped through hole at centre of elongated ivory toggle. |
