Deck Log of Nimrod, 1907-08.
After navigating through dense clusters of ice bergs, Nimrod entered the Ross Sea on January 16 1908. She skirted the Barrier until January 25 but the pack-ice was too thick to reach land so Shackleton steered for McMurdo Sound, finally reaching the ice foot off Hut Point Peninsula on 3 February.
By 12 February, the stores were safely ashore and on 22 February, the Nimrod headed northward leaving Shackleton and the expedition behind. Nimrod arrived at Port Chalmers, New Zealand, on March 6, 1908.
