Could you transform your teaching or research if you had easy online access to historic images of polar expeditions (such as the one below of Captain Scott with Terra Nova, 1911)?

SPRI has put forward a proposal to the Joint Information Systems Committee for funding to digitise the entire archive of photographic negatives from 1845-1960 (including daguerrotypes, lantern slides, glass plate negatives and more modern cellulose nitrate and acetate formats) from the Institute's collections, along with related documentary records selected for educational and research value. The project aims to provide remote access for all to the photographic negatives and selections from the related archival collections held at SPRI, which are amongst the richest in the world for the study of polar environments, exploration and science. Positive images from the digital negatives will be made freely available for use and reuse via an educational licence.

For further details see SPRI's outline bid.
